I cannot get the thought of barking dogs off my mind this morning. That is due to laying awake listening to my neighbor’s insane pack of dogs barking at coyotes all night long. I had all night long to think about the many nearby dogs that suffered from a variety of barking issues. It became apparent that my normally peaceful neighborhood,  has more than its share of occasional dog barking madness.

I have written a short list of just some of the commonest reasons that cause dogs to bark in excess . You will have some work to do with your dog to correct the problem if he suffers from this behavior-actually I think we suffer a lot more from the barking than they do. It is too bad, but this barking problem isn’t going away without some work by you.

  • It is very common to see ( actually, hearing is a better choice of words) a dog begin barking upon seeing a stranger or another dog come into his view. This is just a  part of their instinct for protecting their territory and it is quite natural. The problem is if the dog continues the excited barking even long after he has no more reason to be protecting anything. When the dog no longer sees the object of his barking, he gets some positive feedback-thinking that his barking has scared it away.
  • Often the problem begins when dogs  respond to hearing other dogs- or in my neighbor’s case, coyotes- barking in the distance.  You can train your dog to stop doing this if he is one of those talkative dogs. The issue of problem dog barking should be corrected, because it affects your neighbors as well as you.
  • Stressed out and insecure dogs are likely to bark for insignificant reasons. These types of dogs have a lot of nervous anxiety issue,a dog will bark for no obvious reason whatsoever. These are the kinds of dogs that often  bark on and off all the time unless their masters are with them. A buddy of mine had a dog that was so nervous, I actually saw it barking furiously at a leaf that fell from a tree. Obviously this dog was the epitome of nervousness. All this barking about nothing, made it hard to be around the dog and relax at the same time.
  • A dog that is really lonely and bored may just start barking out of frustration-he wants to tell the whole world all about it.  Dogs that are left all alone most of the time without attention and interaction are the obvious candidates for this barking problem.
  • Occasionally your dog may bark non-stop at you to play with them or feed them or something, and he won’t stop until he gets it-no matter if you are already working on something else. If this is the case, though, he really isn’t respecting you as the Alpha dog, or he wouldn’t try that. the problem with letting this happen, is that in your dog’s mind he is training you-not the other way around. Until I put an end to my dog’s training of me, my Lab used to get a kick out of bossing me around when she wanted to play some more.

So, use these tips to put an end to your dog’s excessive barking problems. Please check out my full review of the best on line dog training program.
