Do your dog’s teeth seem like a set of expensive china? We make a point nowadays of making ours look like that, so why don't you do the same for our pets? They do not eat sugar like us but they need to have their teeth cleaned just the same. If not, they'll show evidence of tooth decay eventually.

Even as young as three years, tartar buildup and plaque contributing to gum Problems are at least an 80% certainty. Halitosis, red or bleeding gums and loose teeth are evidently an indication asking for swift help! Sometimes even a trip or 2 each year to the veterinary for professional teeth cleaning may not stop your dog from having tooth Problems. The habit of cleaning dog teeth at home should become part of its regular grooming wants. This could appear a little ungainly and complicated, but in reality it can be amusing and definitely rewarding for both of you.

Brushing your dog’s teeth at home:

There’s much you can do for dog dental cleaning at home. It will prevent many gum and teeth issues. Nowadays you can have dog toothpaste in dog tastes like poultry and beef. Your dog will shortly grow accustomed to the feel of the toothbrush and the taste. Shortly enough it'll even look forward to having some close-up dental attention and you’ll both enjoy it, for sure!

In next to no time your dog will like having its teeth cleaned! Children, even their mother and father, get a kick out of watching us when we get close up and personal! The tail will start wagging as quickly as the brush and toothpaste come into view. It's an exciting time and we are now ready for positioning. There's no set way to do that but I suggest that you have your dog put its head between your legs, resting the head on a knee. The lower you sit there’s less tension on your back. Your dog will enjoy the dog toothpaste and in time will let you know which it prefers, meat or poultry-flavor. It’s alright for your dog to swallow it. In fact it'll need more and more of it, so you’ll need to watch how much you use, otherwise it can get quite expensive! You'll be wanting to use at least a spoon on each side though. Your dog will lick it as you brush, and that is fine! This loving exercise in care and attention will be an added bonus for good memories, not to mention removing the price of extra vet visits for dog dental cleaning.

If your dog is ‘long in the tooth ‘, how do you get it to enjoy having its teeth brushed? Your dog might be either older or hesitant to having this new treatment. Coaching a puppy dog is generally less complicated but you can really teach an old dog new tricks! I am going to suggest 1 or 2 tips here for getting your dog conditioned to having its teeth cleaned at home. There’s nothing hard about it. You’ll just wish to have a small amount of patience and spend the time necessary. Puppies or older dogs will take to this easily.

This is what you’ll need to clean dog teeth: Dog toothpaste, either poultry-flavor or beef. A special dog toothbrush with soft bristles and a curved handle for reaching back teeth would be best. Dental pads or any soft piece of compress.

We offer masses of data about dog dental cleaning and dog toothpaste for keeping your pet’s oral health in great shape.

We know how difficult it is to be burdened by so much pain. A dog can be burdened by the same kind of pain that we feel. Naturally, dogs cannot relieve their discomfort on their own. Dogs would depend on the pet parent not only for their food and shelter but for their health care as well. A caring owner will never sit back and simply watch a suffering pet. If no other medication can be given, a pet owner would administer human medication just to ease the immense pain that burdens the pet. But what can you give your dog for pain?

Dog owners are warned about the dangers of giving the pet medications formulated for humans but in a pitch, a pet parent would take the risk rather than watch the dog suffer from the pain. Nothing would beat professional medical attention to manage the condition of the pet but there are instances when a vet is not available and the only recourse a dog owner would have to provide the pet relief from excruciating pain is to give human drugs for pain.

Most over the counter pain relief medications contain substances that would not only do the dog damage but can also be the cause of the dog’s death. Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Advil are some of the pain relief drugs that must not be given to the dog. Aspirin is another pain medication that must not be given to pets but a lot of dog owners believe that given to the pet in the right dosage, this drug would not cause the dog harm.

Aspirin is an effective pain relief medication as it also reduces fever and has anti-inflammatory capabilities. However, dogs would also suffer from the side effects humans suffer from aspirin. Aspirin can cause stomach ulcers and gastrointestinal upset both in humans and dogs. Aspirin can relieve arthritic and joint pains but the pet should not be given more than 10 mg for every pound of body weight.

Vets are now prescribing NSAIDs like meloxican, Carprofen, firocoxib, Gabapentin and Tramadol. NSAIDs are known to have side effects but these drugs were approved to be used on dogs. Dog owners are known to observe all the movements of the pet thus the fact that the pet is in pain would surely be noticed. The active and inquisitive nature often land the dog in tight spots that would cause them pain. A wise owner would stock on medications that can provide the pet relief from pain. The right management of the pet’s condition would ensure the quality of the pet’s life.

Owning a pet puts quite a heavy responsibility on the shoulders of the owner who needs to make certain the well being of his dog, if he wants to enjoy having a healthy pet at home and not become burdened by having to provide treatment to a pet who becomes sick due to neglect in providing correct dog health care.

What it basically comes down to is that after you bring home a dog, you have taken responsibility to safeguard its well being which implies that you will make sure that you provide him with a good diet of dog food and acceptable quantity of water, both of which are important aspects to proper dog health care.

You may be sure that a typical piece of dog health advice that will come your way is that a dog that does not get enough water will end up becoming dehydrated and so will require some medical assistance, which isn't at all good for either the dog keeper or for the dog.

Clean Drinking Water

Another handy piece of dog health guidance that you should pay special attention to is the necessity to change his drinking water on a regular basis and feed him at least twice in a day so that he gets to eat enough food which should ensure that he stays dynamic and healthy, while a sure indication of a problem is when your pet fails to show a good hunger for his daily food.

You also must heed whatever dog health guidance you get with respect to the environment of your dog which is also an important facet to keeping your dog fit. It means cleaning his litter box regularly to be sure that he doesn't become sick and it'll also help to remove the bad smells from the home.

Clean Accommodation

A healthy pet also requires being easily housed and it's really vital when your dog starts to age as he won't be in a position to strain him so much because of advanced age as well as weak bones, and only correct and clean accommodation will provide help to ensure that he won't finish up injuring himself.

What’s more, dog health care may also be a costly exercise and thus, you need to properly follow whatever dog health guidance comes your way, including maybe taking out a health insurance policy for your dog to cover for his medical expenses should they appear.

Furthermore, dogs are just as prone to falling victim to illnesses as humans or maybe pussies and birds and there are hundreds of illness types that will affect them, which is why you want a good supporting vet whom to turn to for proper dog health advice, and from whom to also get the best treatment administered to your pet in case he falls ill or becomes injured.

The good news is that most dog health care issues are easy to treat thru use of treatments, physical care and even surgery, though the primary difficulty with treating them is that dogs cannot communicate their Problems to us humans and thus identifying their problematic health condition can frequently turn out to be tricky.

However , after patient studies, the most typical dog healthcare problems have been identified and thus, at least for these, there is lots of handy dog health advice available that may be used to guarantee they be given correct and opportune treatment.

Many can be easily confused when they first broach the subject of worms in dogs. Search for worms in dogs on an internet search engine and you will be presented with an information overload. It is impossible to thoroughly go through this information and decide what is and isn’t relevant.

You may not have time to decipher what information is worthwhile and what isn’t. You will have enough to worry about with looking after your dog, let alone becoming an expert in veterinary subjects.

All dog owners should know these three things about worms in dogs.

1. Puppies

Worms in dogs can be particularly harmful to puppies. The immune systems of puppies is not as strong as fully grown dogs. It is often the case that they are born with worms. The mother often passes worms onto the pup whilst they are in her womb.

Puppies should be dewormed by a vet as soon as they are born. Any worms the pup has will be rid here. Heed this advice closely, as a serious infection can be fatal to a puppy.

2. Deworming

Anually, you should have your dog professionally dewormed. Set a reminder in your calendar so that you do not forget to take your dog to the vets.

Dogs should be dewormed regularly, regardless of whether they display any symtoms. The reason for this is that often a dog can have a worm infection without displaying symptoms. This is the best way to fight the battle against worms in dogs.

3. Children

Unfortunately, worms in dogs can be harmful to humans and in particular, children. Again, the reason for this is that children have weaker immune systems than adults. Try to keep children away from dog fesces and keep their hands clean. It is rare children will have a worm infection, but it is not a risk that you should take.

Dogs are not only voracious eaters, these animals are also indiscriminate eaters so that if they have ingested food and non-food items that do not agree with their system, they would suffer from an upset stomach. Dogs have the annoying habit of eating spoiled food as well as non-edible things. It seems that dogs have insatiable appetites as even well fed ones would still eat inedible things.

There are several reasons why dogs would have an upset stomach. Although the most common culprit is dietary indiscretion, some dogs are noted to have sensitive stomach so that they are predisposed to gastrointestinal concerns. An upset stomach is common in dogs as it can be the outcome of a diet change but it can also be a symptom of a serious illness that weakens the dog’s immune system.

As stomach upset is a common concern, taking the dog to a vet may not be necessary. After a day or two of home treatment, the stomach upset will be gone and the pet will again be the energetic and voracious eating dog. Having been accustomed to dealing with the upset stomach of the pet, the owner would know how to treat the diarrhea and the vomiting of the pet.

Dogs are naturally energetic but one with an upset stomach will be lethargic because of the pain in the stomach area. Dogs, as mentioned have huge appetites thus they would not pass up the chance to gobble food. However, the pain in the belly would cause a dog to turn away from food . Dog owners have to carefully observe the dog as when the dog’s diarrhea or vomit contains blood, a veterinarian must be consulted at once. The blood in the dog’s vomit and stool means that the pet is not suffering from simple stomach upset as these are symptoms of a more serious concern.

To soothe the upset stomach of the pet you can ease up on the food intake of the pet. Older dogs are normally fasted for 24 hours. Younger ones must be given easy to digest food in smaller amounts. Fasting is done to rest the stomach. Vomiting and diarrhea can result to dehydration thus the pet’s water bowl must always be filled. Because of the stomach pain the dog may refuse to drink water. Sufficient water intake is necessary to prevent dehydration. Encourage the dog to lick ice cubes instead. Easy to digest food can be given to the pet after the fasting period.

I don’t know about you but there have been times when I suddenly feel a lot of pain and I’m not entirely sure on what to do about it. How much more difficult it must be for our pets. I mean, they cannot even articulate what it is specifically that ails them, how much more find out the things they need to relieve them of the discomfort. Therefore it is largely up to us to study and understand what we can do to help our dogs the best way possible.

Canines that are in pain exhibit symptoms that are pretty much the same regardless of the reasons that may have caused it. These dogs will often whimper, refuse to eat or drink, be depressed, tremble and shake and show signs of laziness. When these symptoms manifest, it’s time you visit the vet and get a proper diagnosis of his condition.

Fortunately, dog pain relievers are made available in pet stores and canine sites that will really help your pet. Expect the vet to prescribe an NSAID or non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drug with a supplement to relieve pain. However, if you can’t get to your vet right now, or if you need immediate help for your dog’s condition, here are some simple dog pain relief at home remedies you can try.

One of the fastest ways to help your dog is to manage his daily movements so that he doesn’t have to do anything that will further aggravate whatever condition he is in. Settle him down in a comfortable place where all his doggie toys, water bowl and food dish are. Limit physical activity to regular trips to the bathroom for now.

If the cause of his discomfort is an area of swelling, get an ice pack and apply it on the spot for about 15 to 20 minutes. This reduces swelling effectively. Let it rest for a while and then apply the pack again. Do this for the next 2 days or until the swelling goes down. Don’t use warm compress for any inflammation. Warm compress is good only for relieving muscle tension.

Never ever administer prescription drugs like Aspirin, Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Advil and Acetaminophen as dog pain relievers. Human medications have stronger substances that can be very dangerous to dogs when administered in large amounts. Aspirin may seem mild to you but it causes the dog to have ulcers. Furthermore, it thins out the blood, an especially dangerous thing for animals undergoing surgery.

Another excellent dog pain relief at home is this: massage. It sounds simple enough but it helps tremendously in reducing the canine’s pain. Massage stimulates better blood flow and eases muscle tension that the dog connects to pain. Get a few drops of any aromatic oil and gently massage it to the sore muscles of the dog.

I understand how hard it must be for you to know that your dog is experiencing pain; but you are doing in your part by taking him to regular medical check-ups and maintaining a good and healthy diet. Do your best in making sure he is strong and healthy and it will inevitably be that way before long. Enjoy!

Every pet owner should know where to find effective dog pain relievers for their beloved pets. Find valuable tips for dog pain relief at home when you visit HealthyHappyDogs.com today.

Ticks and fleas are a common problem which can frustrate you and your dog, and they can potentially cause severe health issues. There are many different powders and sprays out there, but with their chemical-based formulas, they could be harmful to the pet’s health or to yours.

Don’t worry – those powders and sprays aren’t your only means of defense against these tiny tyrants. You can fight them off with natural remedies that are safe for everyone and can be effective for your dog.

Check the shelves at the pet store. They sell many products that are entirely produced from natural ingredients. They have no chemicals that could be unsafe for your pets or family, but they have ingredients that are very effective in getting rid of the pesky pests.

Some powders and sprays don’t contain any chemicals either. You can find shampoos and special flea brushes to remove them from our dog’s coat. There are some treatments that you can apply directly to the dog’s skin that won’t harm the dog in any way, but will kill the fleas.

You can always choose a flea collar which repels fleas without any chemicals coming in contact with the skin.

Take extra care to clean your dog and your home. Bathe and brush your dog at least once every week. Make sure to vacuum your carpets and keep your dog’s bedding clean.

Warm, humid areas are perfect for fleas to lay their eggs, so they should be vacuumed often. It’s advisable to sprinkle a little Borax or a bit of laundry detergent on your carpets before you vacuum.

These products kill fleas and eggs, which you can then vacuum. Make sure your pets and any children aren’t around when you do it. Even if they are not harmful, a little caution never hurts.

There are some homemade treatments that many pet owners claim to work very well. It might be best to consult your veterinarian first.

Garlic and Brewer’s yeast seem to be effective. Be careful when you use them. Keep your grass cut and your bushes edged, so that it will be more difficult for fleas to get on your dog.

With some of these tips, you can avoid using chemical treatments that could be harmful to your dog. And also, if you use environmentally safe products, you and your dog will enjoy a healthier life.

Bedding is very important for a dog, especially a puppy which has just been taken away from its mother. In fact, if you can arrange it, it is a good idea to leave a blanket with your puppy when it is still with its mother and siblings, that way the blanket will remind him of home, which will be a big comfort to it in its early days of loneliness.

The best material to use for your blanket is wool. Wool is absorbent and so holds some moisture and smells, which will help the animal feel at more home. Wool is also pretty tough and warm, not that warmth is really a major concern for a dog that lives in the house.

There is no need to purchase a special blanket for your dog. You can cut down an old blanket of your own, a metre square is roughly right. This is big enough for any dog, will fit in a dog basket comfortably and is yet not too large to go in the washing machine every couple of of months. If you do not want to run to the expense of using a blanket of wool, you could make use of an old towel, since towels are also absorbent.

Most dog owners allow their pets to sleep in the house and some even allow their dog to sleep on the bed. If you allow your dog to sleep in the house, it is best not to give food to him after about six or seven o’clock or you will have to let him out or take him out late at night.

It is better to feed your dog twice a day than only once and be careful of leaving food down all day, particularly if there is no-one at home during the day to let him out.

If you choose to leave your dog in the garden all day and night, you will have to provide even more shelter for him. A kennel or dog house is the best way of doing this. A kennel ought to have a wooden floor which is a couple of inches above the ground.

You could put a couple of inches of straw in the kennel for your dog to make his bed and you can put a blanket or two in there as well. Do not worry about what you think it should look like, your dog knows best in these matters. If you can not run to either blankets or towels, believe it or not your dog will be just as pleased with crumpled up sheets of newspaper for bedding. Newspaper is soft, absorbent and astonishingly warm, which is why tramps use it. It is also cheap and easy to replace when it becomes dirty after rainfall.

A dog instinctively tries to form a nest to sleep in. I am sure that you will have noticed that dogs walk around in a circle three times before lying down. This is to flatten the grass before lying down and they do it whether there is grass underneath them or not. If you supply some kind of bedding he will not be wasting his time.

Dog owners would be exposed to the affectionate nature of the dog as this pet has the inclination to give its favorite people sloppy kisses. Certainly, an owner will be overwhelmed by the stench if the dog has bad breath. A strong bond is formed between the family and the four legged friend thus it is not surprising if the dog constantly receives hugs and kisses from the members of the family. This is why a bad doggie breath can be a major concern for pet owners.

Dogs are supposed to have strong teeth. Dogs have the capability to gnaw and break hard to crack bones because they have strong teeth. A dog can escape confinement by boring a hole through a concrete wall simply by using its teeth. Dogs though, like their human friends can have teeth and gum diseases too. A periodontal disease can be the culprit that gives the dog a bad breath.

Dogs eat rotten things thus it would not be surprising if rotten air would come out of their mouths. This time bacteria are the cause of the foul breath. An owner should be concerned if the pet has bad breath as apart from the discomfort it gives the family, the bad breath can be a sign that the pet has an underlying disease.

Before giving the pet a lot of pet breath mints that would last for about five minutes, why not take the dog to the vet so that a pro will rule out any underlying disease that may be the cause of the bad breath. The dog is usually sedated to give the vet a free hand to thoroughly examine and clean the teeth. This will be a good chance to see if the mouth has foreign objects and if the pet has gum problems. You need to shell out cash for the dental cleaning of the pet but what is a few dollars if you can say goodbye to the dog’s bad breath.

Regular brushing would do a lot in reducing the bad breath of the dog. Along with other grooming routines that are regularly done, brushing the dog’s teeth will also be necessary. Dogs too like their human friends would get lots of benefits from regular brushing as aside from keeping the breath fresh it will also prevent the buildup of tartar and plaque that causes bad breath. Invest in specially designed toothbrush for dogs and be sure to use doggie toothpaste. The dog’s bad breath may be due to digestive problems. Some foods given to the dog promote the buildup of bad breath causing plaque. Switching to a different diet or a different brand would prevent plaque buildup and consequently remove the abhorrent smell of the dog’s breath.

Ask any satisfied pet owner and they will tell you the same thing- delicious homemade dog treats are the best way to a healthy and happy pet. This is not to say all commercial pet food are bad-there are some good brands available in the grocery store; but homemade is still better. So are you ready to make some treats? You will know how to make dog treats by the time you finish this article.

Before anything else, have your pet examined by a licensed veterinarian. You need to know the condition of his health so you can make necessary adjustments in his meals. Does the animal have a health issue that warrants a specific diet modification? You can make it in such a way that you find recipes that include food with the needed nutrients in his snacks.

Decide on the kind of treats you want to make for the dog. Generally you can choose if you want the sweet variety or the more savory treats. When you decide on what you want, make sure that the recipe you have does not contain ingredients that are harmful to canines. You can look up these toxic food substances and post it in your kitchen.

After, it’s time to prepare the things you need. What are you putting in your culinary creations? Any kind of meat should be good except for salmon and raw fish. Salmon has been said to have caused infections in canines on a number of cases. Organ meat like liver is good; however, you must serve it in measured amounts. Too much of liver results in vitamin A toxicity.

If you want to put in fruits for the added vitamins, you can. However, avoid grapes, apricots, peaches, cherries and avocados. Some of the seeds of these fruits activate cyanide poisoning. Why not also buy special canine related cookie cutters and molds? It makes your treats even more interesting and more than that-other people might find it fun and would want to order some from you as well.

Now you have everything prepared, it’s time to get some cooking done! Do what the recipe tells you to do-boil, bake, toast or assemble the food together. When cooking meat, take out all the bones as these bones splinter when cooked. Otherwise, the canine might choke on his snack. Chop up these goodies in small pieces so it will be easy to chew and enjoy.

So now you’re done making the treats-what next? It is a good idea to make a few extra batches of the treats and keep them to save on time and money. Store the homemade treats in a sealed bag and keep them in the freezer until you need them. Make sure you defrost before you serve it to your eager pets-chilled teeth will make it harder to enjoy yummy food.

Now you know how to make dog treats-it’s pretty simple right? Just about anybody can do it. Go ahead and start applying what you just learned today.
